The owner and founder of Charleston Cremation Center and Funeral Home, Marcus has been a licensed Funeral Director for nearly 20 years. Having no immediate family in the funeral industry, he began his funeral career in 1992, by washing hearses at a local funeral home in Waldorf, Maryland. After high school, he maintained a part time position with the funeral home, while pursuing his Bachelors Degree from Frostburg State University (where in 1995) he met his future wife, Kari. Upon graduation, he continued his pursuit of funeral licensure and soon received his Mortuary Science Degree in 1999 and has maintained his license as a Funeral Director and Embalmer since graduation. After relocating to Delaware in 2000, Marcus oversaw the set up and start up of two separate crematories, all while conducting funeral services, meeting and helping at-need families, as well as going to work for the Dover Port Mortuary during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2006 Marcus and Kari made their final move to Mt. Pleasant, where they planted their roots, having two sons, Gunnar and Brock. Moving to South Carolina, he began a career as an independent contractor providing pre-need services for a local funeral home. It was there that he discovered what families “really” wanted. His goal is to offer the Charleston community quality end of life care; catered to each specific family, all at an affordable price. Whether that choice includes cremation, a traditional burial, a memorial service, a celebration of life or anywhere in between, Charleston Cremation Center will provide unparalleled service and value during your family’s time of need.
